Newsletter Nuggets

Paul Harris was more than just the founder of Rotary. If all he had done was call a few business friends together and start a new club in Chicago, we probably would never know his name. Moreover, Rotary International as we know it would probably not exist, or at least not exist in its present form.

Paul Harris had vision, and he shared his vision with others long after that first Rotary meeting in 1905. In this Newsletter Nugget section, I have pulled together brief samples of that vision. The idea is to prepare material that you can easily cut and paste into your club’s newsletter or bulletin to share with your members. As with all material produced by the Rotary Global History, any Rotary Club is free to use the material with proper attribution. To facilitate the attribution, each section includes the attribution at the bottom. Simply include it when you cut and paste.

I use the following conventions in these nuggets.

  1. Any direct quotation from Paul Harris is printed in italics.
  2. Any commentary designed to put the quotation into context is in normal type. (Most of these nuggets include substantial quotations from Paul Harris, although some are simply summaries based on his writings.)
  3. The source of the quotation is in parentheses right after the quotation. You can access the original source on the site www.whatpaulharriswrote.org.
